Your home's plumbing system is a critical part of everyday life, but you may not think about it until something goes wrong. Leaks are a common issue that can lead to significant damage if not detected and repaired promptly. However, detecting a leak can be challenging if you don't know what to look for. Fortunately, Melex Detection can help.

Here are some DIY water leak detection tests you can perform to determine if you have a leak in your plumbing system:

1. Water Meter Test: If you're wondering how to find a water leak underground this is always your first place to start. If you have a water meter, the first thing to do is to turn off all water usage in the house and then check the meter. If the meter is still moving, there's a leak in your plumbing system.

2. Shut Off Valve Test: Your plumbing system should have two shut-off valves - one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn off these valves one at a time and check the meter to see if the leak is inside or outside and if it's on the hot water or cold water side.

3. Hot Spots on the Floor: If you find a warm area on the floor ranging in size from a few square feet to half a room, it indicates a break in the hot water plumbing under the slab.

4. Sound of Running Water: If you hear the sound of running water when no one is using water, it's likely that there's a leak in your plumbing system.
